 Taylor Alison Swift (born 13 December 1989) is an American musician and singer. Her discography spans multiple genres. Her songwriting - often in the form of personal reflections--has received critical praise and wide media coverage. Swift was born in West Reading (PA) and moved to Nashville when she was a teenager in order to pursue a career as an artist in the country music industry. In 2004 Swift signed a songwriting agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. She also signed a recording contract with Big Machine Records. Her self-titled debut album was her first album featuring country music. It was also the first U.S. platinum certified album. Swift's subsequent albums Fearless (2008) and Speak Now (2011) explored country pop. The latter's "Love Story," and "You Belong with Me" were among the first songs from the country genre that made it to the top of both the U.S. Pop and All-Genre Airplay charts. Red (2012) saw her experiment with rock and electronic styles. It featured her first Billboard Hot 100 number one song, "We Are Never Ever getting Back Together". The singer has also renounced her country style on 1989 (2014), her synth-pop album. The album was accompanied by chart-topping singles "Shake It Off", “Blank Space” as well as "Bad Blood". Media scrutiny inspired the urban-flavored Reputation (2017) as well as the album's number one single "Look at What You Made Me Do".


 After leaving Big Machine, Swift signed with Republic Records in 2018 and released her seventh studio album, Lover (2019), which was followed by her autobiographical film Miss Americana (2020). Swift's 2020 albums Folklore (2019) and Evermore (2020) were her first ventures into alternative rock and indie music. "Cardigan" was a top-ten hit, while "Willow" was an album that ranked in the Top 100. After a dispute over her masters, Swift began to re-record six of her albums. Swift re-released two of them in 2021: Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red. "All Too Well (10-minute Version)" by the latter album became the longest Hot 100 song. Her 2022 album Midnights was released, and its single "Anti-Hero", broke records for streaming time. Swift has also directed music videos and films which include All Too Well: the Short Film (2021), as well as playing supporting roles in many others. Swift is among the greatest-selling musicians ever. She has sold over 200 million copies across the world. Swift is the top streamed person on Spotify. The five albums she has released have had over 1 million copies sold in the US. Twelve Grammy Awards including three Album of the Year nominations as well as an Emmy Award, 40 American Music Awards and 29 Billboard Music Awards. 92 Guinness World Records are just a few of her many awards. Swift has been featured in lists like the Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, Billboard's Greatest of All Time Artists, the Time 100 and Forbes Celebrity 100. Swift has been awarded the titles of Artist of the Decade as and Woman of the Decade. She is a strong proponent of women's empowerment and artists' rights. Swift's music is often acknowledged as having inspired a generation of singer-songwriters.
